WHAT IS THE DISSOLUTION METHOD OF PVB RESIN?

2023-02-09

PVB resin (Full name: Polyvinyl Butyral resin) is a hot-melt polymer compound, white or light yellow powder.

When mixed solvents are used, the dissolving step is to first put aromatic solvents (such as xylene, toluene, etc.) or ester solvents (such as n-butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, etc.) into PVB resin slowly while stirring. After PVB resin is dispersed and swelled, alcohol solvents (such as n-butanol, ethanol, etc.) are added, and the dissolution time can be shortened by raising the temperature.

Using this dissolution method can avoid agglomerated PVB (because the dissolution time will increase several times after the formation of agglomerated PVB), thus speeding up the dissolution rate.

Generally, the ratio of aromatics to alcohol solvents is 60/40~40/60 (weight ratio), and PVB resin solutions with lower viscosity can be prepared. The solvent composition contains 2-3 wt% of water, which can increase the hydrogen bond strength of the alcohol solvent and help the solubility of PVB resin.

As one of the leading PVB resin manufacturers in China, iSuoChem has been in resin industries for over 16 years. We help our customers to develop more eco-friendly resins and solvent system, improve resin to increase printing efficiency and beautify the printing effect.
