What is The Thermal Stability of Chlorinated Polypropylene (CPP)?

2025-12-05

Many customers are very concerned about the thermal stability of chlorinated polypropylene (CPP) resin. They also often consult us about whether chlorinated polypropylene (CPP) will cause problems during high-temperature storage or processing.

As is well known, a core indicator of chlorinated polypropylene (CPP) is its chlorine content. Chlorine content plays an important role in the thermal stability of chlorinated polypropylene (CPP).

In the chlorinated polypropylene market, many available CPP resins with low chlorine content show poor thermal stability. Decomposition begins slowly at storage temperatures above 40°C and happens rapidly above 70°C.

However, as the chlorine content increases (e.g., to around 30%), thermal stability improves, reaching a relatively stable peak range. When the chlorine content continues to increase, exceeding a certain best level, thermal stability greatly decreases.

So, how does iSuoChem ensure that the thermal stability of its chlorinated polypropylene (CPP) meets customer standards for transportation, storage, and production?

iSuoChem's CPP thermal stability goes through strict testing.

The specific standard is:

Test Methods: A resin solution of 20% resin + 80% toluene is placed in a tin can and placed in a 70°C water bath for 72 hours.

Test Results: The final solution shows no discoloration(Color change), and the inner wall of the tin can shows no reaction.

In conclusion, iSuoChem Full Series chlorinated polypropylene (CPP) fully meeting the requirements for standard high-temperature storage (such as summer warehouses) and processing (such as ink drying).

Additionally, CPP decomposes at about 150℃. As long as the processing temperature does not exceed this range, decomposition and quality loss will not happen.

Q2: Do you know which product category CPP resin belongs to?

iSuoChem Chlorinated polypropylene (CPP) is a specialty polymer material and a synthetic resin. As a chlorinated polymer, it belongs to the larger product category of chlorinated polyolefins. From an application perspective, it is mainly used in the production and sale of resins for inks, specialty coatings, and adhesives. These different identities explain its performance characteristics (such as the variation in thermal stability with chlorine content).
