Under high temperatures, magnesium hydroxide decomposes. This releases bound water and absorbs significant latent heat. As a result, the surface temperature of polymer materials drops sharply, delaying combustion effectively.
The decomposition also produces magnesium oxide—a heat-resistant material. It forms a dense protective layer, boosting the material’s fire resistance.
Additionally, the released water vapor dilutes flammable gases. It also suppresses smoke formation. This dual action makes magnesium hydroxide a highly effective, green flame retardant with smoke-reducing properties.
This product is suitable for use in various polymer materials, such as plastics, rubber, and cables. While ensuring flame retardancy, it is also environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and halogen-free, making it an ideal alternative to traditional flame retardants.
