128-year Development History of Chlorinated Rubber

2023-06-15

Chlorinated rubber, like iSuoChem Chlorinated Rubber, possesses excellent resistance to chemicals and the atmosphere, making it highly compatible with a wide range of resins and plasticizers.

128-year Development History of Chlorinated Rubber

The exploration of Chlorinated Rubber began back in 1895. A significant milestone was achieved in 1915 when Peachey secured the first-ever patent for industrial production, leading to its realization on a large scale in 1917. The 1930s and 1940s marked a period of rapid advancement in both research and production of Chlorinated Rubber. While Natural Rubber (NR) was primarily utilized in the preparation of CR (Chlorinated Rubber), there were also developments in producing Chlorinated Rubber using synthetic polyisoprene rubber, although the former remained the predominant choice.

By the early 1990s, it was estimated that the global annual output of CNR reached approximately 40,000 tons. This figure experienced substantial growth, exceeding 70,000 tons by the year 2000. Notable countries involved in the production of Chlorinated Rubber included the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Japan, and Italy. However, significant changes were implemented following the "Montreal Protocol." Developed nations ceased the production of Chlorinated Rubber with carbon tetrachloride by the end of 1995, transitioning to alternative methods such as the water phase method and other innovative technologies.

Reflecting on the intriguing 128-year history of Chlorinated Rubber, we witness its evolution from a pioneering concept to becoming a prominent player in the realm of chemicals. Today, Chlorinated Rubber continues to captivate the coatings and paints industry with its exceptional attributes, ensuring its continued relevance and significance in this field.
