Strongly Corrosion-Resistant Resins

These are commonly and directly used in anticorrosive coatings.

1. Chlorinated Rubber
Classic corrosion resistant binder for marine, steel structure primers.

2. Chlorinated MP Resin – Copolymer of Vinyl Chloride & Vinyl Isobutyl Ether (similar to Laroflex MP 15 25 35 45 60)
Excellent salt-spray resistance, strong adhesion to metal.
Widely used in anticorrosive coatings & marine paints.

3. Epoxy Resin

It exhibits extremely strong adhesion, excellent resistance to alkalis, oils, and water, and high mechanical strength. Its most significant advantage is its suitability for water-based systems. Solvent-free formulations are becoming increasingly popular.
Applications include chemical equipment, pipelines, ships (especially anti-rust paint for ship bottoms), storage tanks, and concrete structures. However, it has poor outdoor weather resistance and is prone to chalking; therefore, it is often used as a primer or in combination with a topcoat.

4. High Chlorinated Polyethylene (HCPE)
Very good chemical resistance and weather resistance.
Used for heavy anticorrosion coatings, tank linings, marine applications.

5. PU Resin – Polyurethane Resin
Excellent toughness, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance.
Commonly used as topcoats in corrosion-resistant systems.

6. PVB Resin (Polyvinyl Butyral)
Strong adhesion, chemical resistance.
Used in anticorrosive primers and metal protective coatings.

7. Vinyl Resin: VMCH – Carboxyl Modified Vinylic Copolymer Resin
(Vinyl chloride + vinyl acetate + maleic acid)
Excellent chemical resistance, adhesion to metal.
Suitable for anticorrosive coatings and ink binders.

8. Vinyl Resin:  VYHH – Vinyl Chloride Vinyl Acetate Copolymer Resin
Used in anticorrosive primers due to chemical and water resistance.

9. Rosin Modified Phenolic Resin
High heat/chemical resistance.
Used in anticorrosive primers, epoxy-phenolic systems.

Potential Corrosion Resistant Resin (depends on formulation)
These resins can be part of anticorrosion systems but are not “primary” anticorrosive binders.

1. Acrylic Resin Solid (Thermoplastic / Water-based) and Acrylic Emulsion
Provide moderate corrosion resistance; effective in waterborne anti-rust coatings when used with corrosion inhibitors.

2. CPP – Chlorinated Polypropylene (Chlorinated Polyolefin CPO)
Good adhesion to plastic/metal; some chemical resistance.
Secondary choice for corrosion-resistant primers.

3. CEVA – Chlorinated EVA
Similar to CPO; offers chemical resistance and adhesion.

4. Polyamide Resin (co-solvent/alcohol/ester type)
Good chemical and mechanical resistance.
Used in heavy-duty industrial coatings, but not a primary anti-corrosion binder.

5. Ketonic Resin
Good alcohol & solvent resistance; limited corrosion protection alone.
Used as modifier in anticorrosive formulations.

6. VAHN – Hydroxyl Modified Ternary Copolymer Resin
Good adhesion and flexibility; anticorrosion use depends on formulation.

Not Typically Used for Corrosion Resistance
These resins are not suitable for anticorrosion coatings.

1. Hydrocarbon Resin C5/C9
Tackifier; poor chemical/water resistance.

2. Hot Melt Polyamide Adhesive
For adhesives, not corrosion protection.

3. EVA – Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymer
Flexible but low chemical resistance.

4. PVA Resin (Polyvinyl Alcohol)
Water sensitive; not anticorrosive.

5. Maleic Resin Alcohol Soluble
Rosin Modified Maleic Acid Resin
Rosin Modified Pentaerythrite Resin
Rosin Resin for Road Marking
Used in inks, adhesives, road markings, but not for chemical or corrosion resistance.
