What materials are needed to produce water-based carton inks?

2021-07-06
As the global call for environmental protection is increasing, environmental protection materials have begun to be widely used. Many countries have introduced some environmental protection policies, especially in the food packaging industry, which has become more and more stringent, restricting the use of many solvents. All these have brought pressure and motivation to change the ink printing industry. More and more ink manufacturers have begun to try or transform to produce water-based inks. According to the development of the current situation, the use of water-based inks will become more and more extensive. The market will get bigger and bigger. Today we will talk about one of the water-based inks-water-based carton inks.

The water-based carton ink is mainly made of water-soluble resin, water-based organic pigments, solvents and related additives through compound grinding.
So far, the most widely used is water-based acrylic resin.

Here I recommend a basic formula for water-based carton ink:

   Water-soluble acrylic resin 25%~35%
   Water 15%~25%
   Ethanol 5%~15%
   Triethylamine 5%~10%
   Pigment 10%~30%
       Additive 1%~3%

       Anti-wear wax 1%-3%

The general production process is as follows:

Step 1: grinding the color paste

Mix water-soluble acrylic resin, water-based pigments, additives, solvents (water), etc., stir, disperse, and grind into a ready-to-use color paste by a high-speed disperser.

Step 2: Prepare the ink
Stir and mix the prepared color paste, auxiliaries and solvent (water) evenly, grind and disperse to make it have sufficient fineness, gloss and coloring power, and filter and package the water-based ink product.
Abstract: With the enhancement of people’s awareness of environmental protection, water-based inks have been widely used in packaging printing and commercial printing at home and abroad. Especially in developed countries such as Europe and the United States and Japan, water-based inks have long been popular; and the development and development of water-based inks in my country the application started late, but it has developed rapidly in recent years. With the increase in demand for water-based inks, the quality of domestic water-based inks has also been improved, which has improved the slow drying, poor gloss, water resistance, and false printing of the previous water-based inks and other shortcomings

The basic characteristics of water-based ink:
1. It can be directly diluted and cleaned with water, with low odor, easy to use, and has the advantages of environmental protection and safety.
2. It has good printing suitability for all kinds of paper, and generally does not have the problem of poor adhesion.
3. It is alkaline, and the pH value is generally in the range of 8-10.
4. The law of viscosity change is complicated. In addition to conventional factors, it is also easily affected by pH, a small amount of volatile components and certain additives.
5. It is easy to foam, so it is necessary to reduce the generation of foam in the production and printing process.
6. The dual drying mechanism of osmotic absorption and volatilization drying. When multi-color overprinting, the drying speed of each color ink should be controlled.
